Biography

Dr. Ali Osmay GÜRE, who is Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Bilkent Univesity, received his M.D. from Ankara University in 1988, and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1995. He has worked on the academic staff at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He has also headed various projects supported by the Cancer Research Institute (CRI), Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the European Union, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK).

Dr. Güre joined Bilkent in 2006 and teaches courses on Molecular Biology of the Cell, DNA Damage and Repair Mechanisms, and Principles of Gene Expression, as well as an introduction to Modern Biology. His research focuses on cancer immunobiology, early diagnosis, and cancer epigenetics. He has published many papers that have appeared in various important journals, including Cancer Research and Immunological Reviews and Journal of Experimental Medicine. His work has been cited more than 2500 times. Dr. Güre and his research associates have more then 20 patents relating to the discovery and usage of tumor antigens.

Ali Güre’s personal interests include archaeology, photography, swimming, music, social history and etymology.
