Library Intranet's accessibility policy

Introduction

This is the policy regulating the use of the Bilkent University Library Intranet to communicate information exclusively to staff and closed membership groups for university library business. The adoption and implementation of such a policy is required to manage intranet sites effectively and ensure that all information posted on to the University Library Intranet meets best practice throughout the whole library departments.

Purpose

This policy sets out a framework for content being posted onto the University Library Intranet.

The purpose of the Intranet is;

  • To share news and information about our services with staff to engage and motivate staff and support the delivery of university library services.
  • To share confidential information on a need to know basis and collaborate on document creation and engagement with internal closed member groups and guest users e.g. committees, project boards, research groups, individual Library/Services e.g. calendars, task management.
  • To capture key documents as records into the Bilkent University Library records centre as the “single point of truth” and evaluate its potential to serve as a corporate records repository and electronic records and document management system.

Site owners and content authors are responsible for

  • Following Intranet site creation and content management, procedures and guidelines.
  • Controlling access to sites and content intended for closed groups on a business need to know basis to avoid the risk of inadvertently publishing confidential information.
  • Liaising with the relevant colleagues responsible for web content management to ensure that information that needs to be publicly available is published on the external website, rather than the Intranet.
  • Following information governance procedures and guidance to identify and maintain key records as “single points of truth” in SharePoint and apply the appropriate records retention policies.

Library Intranet site uses the open source Content Management System, it meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG v2.0) level 'AA' for people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and combinations of these.

It is also accessible to content authors with disabilities per the level 'AA' Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG 2.0).

Accessibility Statement

Library Intranet site was designed to accommodate the different ways library staff access and use the Internet.

Validation

The site uses assistive technology like WAI-ARIA roles to the current best practices; however, site standards and content vary over time. If intranet web site does not validate correctly, please contact the Site Administration.

A number of checkpoints in WCAG 2.0 and ATAG 2.0 guidelines are subjective; there may be instances where interpretations vary.
