From time tracking to communications, there’s a wide range of free software and apps out there that can help you get through the difficulties of remote working and are compatible with every operating system. You can find below some apps and tools with different functions that you can use for various purposes through your work and task management process.

Behance – Creative Work & Design social media

Behance is a social media platform owned by Adobe which aims to “showcase and discover creative work.” Behance allows people with web design careers to showcase their portfolios of visual work such as graphic design, fashion, illustration, photography, and more and to discover the creative work of others.

Evernote – Note-taking

Evernote is a free note-taking app for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web. Evernote can record voice as well, and it allows you to type your notes while the audio is being recorded. You can use Evernote as a task management system, as storage for old documents, a life logger, or anything you want. Evernote can scan all your handwritten notes/PDFs/images and allow you to search through them quickly and easily. Multiple users can collaborate on the same document

Focus Booster – Time tracking

Focus Booster is a free time tracker software that allows you to manage your schedule and improve your focus and productivity. Focus Booster uses the Pomodoro technique, a popular time management technique that divides focused work sessions into manageable, 25-minute intervals (referred to as “pomodoros”)

GoConqr  – Social learning network

GoConqr is a free social learning network that allows students & teachers to create, discover, and share learning resources. Goconqr includes study tools to create Mind Maps, Flashcards, Notes, and Quizzes. GoConqr is an innovative blend of social learning features and learning applications built to enhance an active and self-directed learning style.

Google Docs – Creating collaborative documents

Google Docs is a free, web-based, and real-time collaboration and document authoring tool. Multiple users can view, edit, or comment a document at the same time while seeing each others’ changes instantaneously. Users can create, import, edit and update text documents, slide presentations, spreadsheets, and surveys in various fonts and file formats, combining text with formulas, lists, tables, and images.

Google Duo – Video calling

Google Duo is a high-quality app for making one-to-one or up to 8 person groups audio and video calls to people in your contact list. Google Duo, similar to Apple’s FaceTime, Facebook’s WhatsApp, and Microsoft’s Skype, is designed for iOS, Android, and the web, and it offers end-to-end encryption.

Google Drive – Sharing collaborative documents

Google Drive is the cloud for storage, an excellent alternative to Dropbox and OneDrive. Google Drive provides an easy store, share, secure, and access to your files and folders from any mobile device, tablet, or computer.  All your documents are stored in a secured 15GB storage space and can be accessed with a free Google account.

Google Calendar – Calendar

Google Calendar is a free web and mobile calendar that enables you to manage personal and professional schedules, keep track of your meetings and events to get reminders about upcoming activities and share your calendars with others. You have access to Google Calendar with a Google account.

Grammarly – Grammar checking

Grammarly is a writing tool that automatically detects grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice, and style mistakes. Grammarly helps you to make sure your writing is error-free and easy to read.

Office Lens – PDF scanning

Office Lens, a free handy capture and scan app for iOS and Android, turns the smartphone into a pocket scanner. It crops, straightens, enhances, and makes pictures of whiteboards and documents readable. Scanned documents can be synched with OneNote and OneDrive. The app identifies the dimensions of the document you wish to scan, crop, and make the image crisp and tidy.

Pocket – Bookmarking

Pocket is a free bookmarking app for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web. You can save articles, videos, and stories and lots more from any publication, page or app for later viewing. Pocket is available everywhere across devices and browsers, and it is free from popups and other concentration killers. Pocket can help restore the focus.

SimpleMind – Mind mapping

SimpleMind is an outstanding mind mapping app that simplifies the process of structuring, analyzing, and presenting thoughts.  It is a cross-platform mind app for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. SimpleMind is comprised of essential features such as the ability to create branches of topics, edit topic texts, move topics around freely, rotate topics’ branches, and select multiple elements.

Skype – Video calling

Skype is a high-quality app for making one-to-one or group audio and video calls. In addition to phone calls, Skype enables texting,  file transfers, and videoconferencing. Skype is compatible with all of your devices.

StudyBlue – Creating & sharing flashcards

StudyBlue is a flash card-creation and sharing app, available for iOS and Android. It is the largest crowdsourced study library, with over 400 million flashcards, notes, and study guides from teachers and students. With StudyBlue, you can make and share study materials, search for recommended study content from classmates, track progress, set reminders, and create custom quizzes.

Todoist – Task managment

Todoist is a task management software that can be used for small teams, individuals, and professionals to manage anything from a shopping list to major projects at work. With Todoist, you can add and complete tasks every day. It is free and compatible with iOS, Android, Mac, Windows & more.

My Study Life – Student planner

My Study Life is a free student planner app compatible with all devices that enables students to synchronize their university life with their calendars. My Study Life helps students to easily organize all of their classes, rotation schedules, assignments, revision, tasks, and exams as well as adding new functionality for teachers and schools.
