Recommended Subscription Databases on Art, Music, Culture, Hobbies &New Skills During COVID-19
As everyone is recommended to stay home and all cultural centers and opera-ballet-theatres are closed during these difficult times, how would you “attend” a theater, opera, ballet, or workshop about your favorite hobbies?
Bilkent University Library, in addition to many databases addressing music and art senses, provides access to many databases/tools useful for improving hobbies and obtaining new skills.

Art & Music Databases
Music and Dance Online delivers a plethora of music content for students, scholars, and patrons of the arts by featuring works from alternative to zydeco and from alternative dance to operatic arias and encompasses a wide range of content formats – including scores, reference, and high definition audio and video.
Art & Architecture Source is one of the largest full-text art research database covering fine, decorative and commercial art, as well as architecture and architectural design. It offers hundreds of full-text art journals, magazines, and books, plus detailed indexing and abstracts and thousands of images.
ARTstor, brings together media from the world’s museums, archives, scholars, and artists, with a specialized suite of tools for teaching and learning with visual materials, all rights-cleared, for education and research.
Naxos Music Library is a comprehensive collection of classical music that includes CDs, a wide range of standard and specialist repertoire, music notes, cover artworks, tracklists, instrumentation and publisher information, operas, and composer and artist biographies.
Oxford Art Online provides access to authoritative, inclusive, and easily searchable online art resources through the regularly updated art references works Grove Art Online and Benezit Dictionary of Artists. It includes over 200,000 articles that span ancient to contemporary art and architecture, as well as over 19,000 images of works of art, structures, plans, and artist signatures
Hobbies & New Skills Databases
Alexander Street Academic Video Online database provides access to more than 66.000 videos of documentaries, films, demonstrations, etc. from various subject areas, including anthropology, business and economics, counseling, health, history, news, music, theatre, etc.
Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE), creates videos of scientific experiments from the top laboratories around the globe and publishes the video protocols for advancing biological, medical, chemical and physical research and science education.
Are you thinking of learning a new language? Mango is an online language-learning tool that can help you learn 72 different languages such as Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, etc. You can also download the Mango app to learn a new language on the go.
OverDrive is a digital platform that enables you to borrow e-books and audiobooks in various languages and of different academic levels. Borrowing a book from OverDrive Digital Library requires your Bilkent University library card number and PIN.
Play with a Pro makes classical music education accessible to world-class artists and teachers and provides private online lesson videos where teachers and musicians share their knowledge and passion for classical music. To use the database, you should sign up with your @bilkent.edu.tr e-mail.
RB Digital database provides access to different platforms such as RBDigital Magazines, independent films platform IndieFlix, The Great Courses platforms via a single link. The platform contains various magazines, films, documentaries, feast videos, and TV series. To register, you must create only once an account via Bilkent University IP addresses.
Vidobu database provides more than 10.000 Turkish training videos for enhancing various hobbies and skills in the fields of science and technology, photography, personal development, and career development. Please click here for off-campus access.
